Student-directed play Defacing Michael Jackson to run Friday and Saturday in the Downstage Theatre

The SFA School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of Aurin Squires Defacing Michael Jackson at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, and at 2:00 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, in the Downstage Theatre of the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the SFA campus. The one-act play involves a group of young people in Opa-Locka, Fla., who are obsessed with Michael Jackson, the King of Pop. But their life is unexpectedly interrupted when a white family moves into the all-black neighborhood. As director Samuel Flash says, Its 1984 and times are changing!

Meryl Streep and Gwyneth Paltrow among Grammy losers

Meryl Streep and Gwyneth Paltrow wont be adding Grammy Award to their already crowded mantles this year. The two Oscar -winning actresses were first-time nominees at these kudos this year. Meryl Streep was nominated for singing on the best-selling soundtrack for her summer smash hit movie Mamma Mia! while Gwyneth Paltrow contended in the category of best spoken word album for children for her reading of Brown Bear and Friend, a book by the late Bill Martin .
